Shades of Violet

from Shades of Violet by William Remmers

/

lyrics

Took train to Yorkshire
Pass the posies by
Poppies in my garden
Things linger
Nothing by violets
All through one season
She less real than they are

Watch Julia falling asleep again
Watching her fall asleep

Never knew Richard did Linda
Sibyl interred without mourning
Finding her hairs in the fiery furnace
Keen in the fields of the moon

And it all turns shades of violet
And it all with scented ribbon sway
Turns the way
I remember her violet passion play

It was a hot August Sunday
Wettest June ever seen
I looked up and the banks were empty
Dart of the fox on the green

Tasting the wings of your shoulder
With every beat every breath
Faster she hurtles my fallen angel
Digging my roots into earth

Sling the sun under your arm again
Take the world with when you go
Sometimes I run into sunset
Now I must watch the sun fall

Sun draws closer
Night is dead
Flames on ocean
Sky strikes mauve

Nailed to my garden
Pyre touches down
Ride like a nightmare
Ride our sun home

And it all turned shades of violet
And it all burned brilliant purple sway
Lit the fields aflame that day
The world fell away
